Boot Time Comparison

Here's an interesting video comparing boot times using different 64bit operating systems in the same machine (Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10) :

Clean up Vista SP1

Do you use Windows Vista?

Then you'll probably have Vista SP1 installed, right?

Do you want to get nearly 1GB of disk space? If so, keep reading...

When you install Vista SP1, it keeps backups of all your previous files - in case you want to uninstall it at some point. However, as it doesn't make any sense to ever go back to your previous Vista, we're better off cleaning up all that junk and recover the extra disk space.
Just open your command prompt and type:

vsp1cln.exe 

(short for Vista SP1 Clean-up)

And before you lknow it, you'll have lots more free space on your hard disk.

Xubuntu Vista

Some people say we shouldn't argue about personal taste. If there's something you can do with Linux environments, it's the complete customization of how it looks.

So, if you're into lightweight and effective Linux desktops (in this case Xubuntu) but you love Windows Vista look, how about turning your Xfce into a perfect copycat?

That's exactly what our friend Vincent at xubuntublog did.

Whether you do it for fun or to help someone switch over from Vista to Xubuntu, it will just take a couple of minutes to make your Xfce look exactly like Vista's Aero.

Eve Online Expansion Deletes Windows XP - MS new tactic to force upgrade to Vista?

Sloppy programming? Lousy beta testing? A new way to intimidate users to upgrade to Vista?

"CCP Games recently released an expansion for their MMORPG Eve Online containing new premium graphics content. However, the installer was programmed to delete C:/boot.ini, making it impossible to reboot without manually repairing your Windows XP installation. Vista is unaffected."

It's completely unacceptable that a game expansion has such a major flaw, rendering computers useless for all but highly advanced users!
