HP WiFi Mouse

For the most part, computer mouses have remained unchanged since their invention. Sure, we let go of the dust gathering rubber balls and started using LED and Laser optical sensors. And we even ditched it's "tail", by evolving to wireless mouses.
But, for the most part, wireless mouses also came with some annoying drawbacks: you still had to use a receptor dongle on a USB port, and you'd have to start worrying about battery life and charging/recharging.

That's two things that HP might have taken care of with their WiFi Computer Mouse.

By using WiFi, it requires no special USB receiver dongle and can be used by any computer with WiFi connection; and as for the battery, HP claims up to 9 months battery life, which should be enough to make you forget about that as well.

The HP WiFi Mouse should be available from June onwards with a price of $49.99.

HP Reclinable Touch Computer

It doesn't take a genius to notice how impractical it is to frequently use a touch monitor in a vertical standing position. That's probably why HP has now decided to make it easier... with a reclining touch computer.

The new HP TouchSmart 610 and the HP TouchSmart 9300 Elite (for consumers and business markets) can recline from an upright position to an almost flat position, allowing the user to adjust the screen for maximum usability and comfort.

The 23" screens have LED lit LCD panels, while the processing power comes from second-gen Intel Core Processors (and can handle up to 16GB of RAM.)

Prices for the TouchSmart 610 consumer PC start at $899 and it will be available on Feb. 9.

Netbooks get HD Video Accelerator Cards

Remember the time when a lucky few could spend a lot of money to have an MPEG video accelerator card in their PCs, so that they could watch DVD video in their computers? (I know it now sound ludicrous, but indeed it was true back then.)

Well, it seems we're back to the same thing, with HP giving you the chance to add a high-definition video accelerator card to your HP Mini 110.

• The good: costing just $30 it isn't that expensive - especiall.y when compared to the price these things had back in the DVD days.)
• The bad: it will soon be obsolete, just like the regular MPEG accelerator, as hardware evolves and chips like Tegra make FullHD video playing/recording as easy as regular low-def video.
  

HP offers Stylish Ubuntu

I'm surprised to see HP pull a stunt like this... but I'm glad they're doing it!

Their HP Mini 1000 now comes with a revamped user interface over the traditional Ubuntu install, and it looks promissing.

Considering they're launching lots of computer models with touchscreens, I guess they dont' want to be left behind in this field.
If you want to try it out yourself you just need to add HP repositories to your Ubuntu and install the glassy-bleu-theme.

Touchscreen Digiframe with Embedded PC

It seems that the netbook craze is finally expanding into other areas. And surprisinigly, it is HP that seems to be taking advantage of it by introducing the Atom platform into a new - and very interesting - area.

There are rumors that indicate HP to be working on a Atom-based Digiframe with touchscreen that will allow you to have a computer anywhere you'd have a digital photo frame... for less that $400.

As you can imagine, this would open up a lot of opportunities for people with "smart-homes", where similar control panels usually cost a lot more than that and offer a lot less.

Lets hope HP delivers on this - or any other manufacturer - as this would certainly be a huge success.
