Faster Than Light Camera

We all know that there's a secret world going on, invisible to us, on each and every second of our lives. Secrets that can only bee seen through the eyes of eye speed cameras, that reveal that even the most simple things are often more amazing than we could have anticipated.

But, what if we could crank the dial on high speed cameras all the way to... one trillion frames per second?

That's exactly what researchers at MIT have done and their trillion images per second camera is fast enough to stop light itself!

Although this isn't the kind of camera you can expect to replace your digital SLR (it takes over an hour to process the capture of the single nanosecond it takes for light to travel through a bottle) it's still a feat one should be proud of.

Water at 7000fps

Because the most common things always look magical when recorded at high speed, check out these mesmerizing water droplets slowed down by a camera recording at 7000fps.

Full HD High Speed Video with the Phantom Flex

While I play around recording video at 240fps in just 320x240 with a Nikon P100, some other - more lucky - guys can play around recording Full HD quality video at 2564fps.

How?... Thanks to the amazing Phantom Flex. A digital high-speed camera that can not only record FullHD video at 2570fps, it can do even more:
  • 5350 fps at 1280x720
  • 10750 fps at 640x480
And, if FullHD is not enought, the Phantom Flex can record video at 2560 x 1600 though "just" at 1455 fps!

Nothing like some videos to really see what it can do, right?

Pity it costs from 50 to 150 thousand dollars.

Golf balls in Super Slow Motion

Everybody knows golf balls are "as hard as a rock", right?

So... see what happens when it hits an obstacle.

Thanks to the super-slow-motion images provided by high-speed-cameras, we can watch this impressive video and better understand what happens in fractions of a seconds.

3D Book flipping Scanner

How about a book scanner capable of digitizing a book as you flip through it?

That's what prof. Masatoshi Ishikawa at Tokyo University has done in his lab, using a high speed camera, strobe lighting and a laser iluminator in order to detect the 3D shape of each page as it turns, so it can then be reconstructed in a "flat perspective."

Water Drop in High-Speed

Even the most simple things, like a water droplet dropping on water, become a mesmerizing event when slowed down to a halt.

Check this amazing video recorded at 2000 fps.

High Speed Ballon Bursting

Life at 2,000 fps would be very boring - but it would also allow you to see some very cool and amazing things, such as this water balloon bursting in super-slow-motion:
