Weather gets a new look on Android

If you regularly check for the weather on your Android device, today you'll be greeted with a new weather report card, featuring a cute frog alongside more detailed weather data.

Dark Sky can use iPhone 6 sensors to improve weather forecasts

We've talked about the vast trove of data that could be gathered using our smartphones. And now, Dark Sky is one more app to put that to use, by using the iPhone 6 barometric sensors in order to improve its weather forecasts.

Sun - Weather Web App for iOS

Things are progressing in a way that will inevitably turn any and every app into a "web app" (we just need to look at games like Warface - played on the browser - to realize it's inevitable). But although there's still lots to be done (we're still years away from the day web apps will be competitive with native apps for high-performance applications) we already have some curious little web apps that show us what they can do when put to good use, like this Sun.

Altough it's nothing but a "web page", this Sun becomes a fully fledged touch responsive, and fluid, app that shows you the weather at your current location, as well as three other cities of your choosing.

The attention to detail and the simple, yet very well done, iconography make this web app one of the most beautiful weather apps out there - even if you consider all the native ones.

If you add it to your home screen (as you should), you even get an updating icon (that's more than the native iOS app does!)... though it only updates when you open up the app - background refreshes at hourly intervals would certainly come in handy.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, do give it a try, and see if your friends can tell the difference between a native app and thos Sun web app.

Weather Layer in Google Maps

Weather prediction can still be a long way off most of the time, but at least now you'll be able to see it directly in the new weather layer in Google Maps. Right next to all the other layers, this layer allows you to see weather icons in all major cities, together with temperature reports, weather forecasts for the next few days, and even cloud data.

A must have for everyone not leaving home before checking the weather.

Google Maps gets Official Weather Channel

It was just a matter of time till Google Maps showed you the weather out there.

Now, when you go to your My Maps section on Google Maps, you can now select a new Weather Channel layer made by The Weather Channel.

There were probably thousands of similar weather layers out there, but this is the first time that one is made with official Google support.

Can you envision planning a trip and being able to stay way from bad weather?

Now we just need weather report that are actually accurate... :)
