Galaxy Gear finally shows Notifications for most apps

Samsung's Galaxy Gear was eagerly awaited by some, but although it didn't fulfill the wildest fantasies of a curved OLED smartwatch, it sill had the chance to prove it's worthiness. There are a lot of people out there that would gladly wear a smartwatch just to save the hassle of reaching to their phablets everytime they hear it buzz or vibrate. Unfortunately, although the Galaxy Gear had a decent look, it's software was severely limited.

What's the point of having a smartwatch that only supports notifications from a few apps, and for the rest merely says something like "You've received a notification, please read it in your smartphone" - seriously?

Well, the thing about software is that it can be fixed and updated, and that's exactly what Samsung has done, turning the Galaxy Gear into an entire different beast. At last, it can now show mnotifications for nearly every app you can think of, including Gmail and Hangouts. among many others.

Unfortunately it's an update that arrived the day after we sent back our review unit... and so I won't be able to try it out for myself, at least for now. But in any case, it's nice to see Samsung is listening to their users and is trying to turn the Gear into the device it should be.

Now... if only they realized just how much they would have to gain if they allowed any other Android with Bluetooth 4.0 to work with the Gear (and even iOS, why not?)
