Looks like Google has finally decided to make its Google Maps the first option for anyone wanting to find a restaurant or local attraction, and it's counting on its users for help, rewarding them with 1TB of free space on Google Drive.
You can find restaurant on Google Maps for a long time, but even so, ask anyone what they use to find restaurant and other tourist attractions, and they'll most likely answer something like TripAdvisor. But that's probably about to change.
Google is well aware that the key to make this sort of services successful is to engage users to be a part of it, and that's exactly what it's doing right now. Google is turning Google Local Guides into a game, where you get points for writing reviews, posting photos and fixing incorrect info about places, and you'll earn benefits according to the level you reach - including one that gives you 1TB of fress space on Google Drive:
- Level 1 (0 - 4 points): Enter exclusive contests (think new Google devices!) in select countries.
- Level 2 (5 - 49 points): Get early access to new Google products and features.
- Level 3 (50 - 199 points): Show up in the Google Maps app with your official Local Guides badge.
- Level 4 (200 - 499 points): Receive a free 1 TB upgrade of your Drive storage, allowing you to keep all the stories, photos, and videos from your travels in one safe place.
- Level 5 (500+ points): The very top Local Guides will become eligible to apply to attend our inaugural summit in 2016, where you’ll be able to meet other top Guides from around the world, explore the Google campus, and get the latest info about Google Maps. Look out for details early next year.
You need only to register as a Local Guides contributor, and then you just need to start reviewing away all the places you know. Soon, you'll be enjoying 1TB of free space on your Google Drive account.
