YouTube now allows you to watch all videos in VR
We're fast approaching 2016, and you can bet it will be the year when we'll be seeing Virtual Reality plastered all around us, no matter where you look (and I mean in the real reality). As you'd expect, YouTube doesn't want to be left behind in this area, and it now allows you to watch all videos in VR, using an Android smartphone and a cardboard VR setup.

Animated GIFs are a "plague" that continuously reminds me how on Earth do we still put up with a "last-century" obsolete technology to provide short animated images, instead of forcing everyone to agree on a new, more efficiente, standard for it. Microsoft and Google at "War" over YouTube app for Windows Phone
It would seem something taken from a Daily Show funny sketch: Google has no interest in developing a YouTube app for Windows Phone; Microsoft creates its own app; Google says it violates its terms as it doesn't show ads and allows video downloads, and blocks it; MS and Google say they work together in a new app; MS launches a new app with ads and no downloads; all seems to be well... until the very next day Google blocks it once again.
Microsoft it now complaining Google is being "mean" and it doesn't give them access to the APIs needed to properly implement their ads. YouTube says it advised Microsoft to use HTML5 to create an App where YouTube could take care of that. But MS insists using HTML5 is unfeasible right now, and points to the fact that neither one of the official YouTube apps for iOS and Android is using HTML5, and are coded using native code - besides, most 3rd party YouTube apps also use workarounds to bypass the apparently restricted public APIs.
No matter which side is "right", there's no doubt that the ones that will "pay" for this are the users - that would prefer both companies to act as grown ups and get their act together and sort things out. MS has a lot to regret about their "scroogled" anti-Google campaigns; and have done more than their share of monopolistic abuse over the decades; but Google was also once known as being the "do no evil" company. I sure wouldn't like to see those roles end up being reversed in the coming years.

YouTube Removes Embed option?
I don't know if this is an official change, or if I just had the "luck" to be selected to one of those small-scale tests Google sometimes pushes to see how people react. That fact is, for someone that keeps a blog and does a lot of YouTube video embedding, I was surprised (and not very pleased) to see that YouTube removed the option to embed the video directly from the video itself.
Don't panic - you can still embed YouTube videos wherever you want; you just need to take an extra step and click the more button, be redirected to the YouTube video page, and from there you can finally embed the video as usual.
I find it odd that YouTube would remove such a feature, particularly considering most other video sites allow us to embed the video from the video itself - just like YouTube did. One can imagine that Google thinks the embed option isn't widely used enough to deserve being always accessible... or maybe they just want to drive up the extra traffic to YouTube. Your guess is as good as mine.

YoutTube gets Automatic Face Blurring
Because not all videos should have clearly identifiable faces, YouTube now offers the chance to automatically blur people's faces. This means you no longer have to worry about that on your video editing software.
Blurring faces on YouTube is simple. Once you’ve chosen the video that you’d like to edit within our Video Enhancements tool, go to Additional Features and click the “Apply” button below Blur All Faces. Before you publish, you will see a preview of what your video will look like with faces blurred. When you save the changes to your video, a new copy is created with the blurred faces. You will then be given the option to delete the original video.
Either you use this feature to keep oppressive regimes from targeting activists fighting for freedom, or to simply keep your children and family anonymous when publishing a funny video to YouTube for the world to see, I'm sure it will come in handy to lot of people out there. And now you know hot to blur faces in video... with just a single click.

YouTube gets New Video Editor
If you have been around for a while, you'll certainly remeber the days where internet video was a synonym for RealPlayer, with blocky, low resolution crappy videos; and remember that even YouTube as well was regarded as a crazy site that would never succeed... Well... We all know how that worked out...
Besides the revamped video editor, Google team has also made it easier to browse and manage videos. But that's something that won't be as fun as editing and remixing videos on the YouTube Video Editor, and reminding yourself constantly: your doing it inside a browser window!

YouTube Gets Instant Timeline Previews
YouTube might be the most popular video site on the internet, but its video player can still learn from others; and at last it's about to receive a much welcomed update that will make jumping into any section of a video much easier. Soon you'll be able to see a small image preview as you move your mouse over the timeline.
This way, you won't have to click around blindly, hoping to get to the right spot and wasting valuable bandwidth. You'll be able to see if that's what you want...
Technically, YouTube generates a 10x10 storyboard collage of 100 images of the video, making it really efficient to be able to show those timeline previews - as you can see in the image above.
Now we just have to wait for this to go live for every one of us and for the already uploaded videos.

How to Remove YouTube Logo from Videos
Ever wished you could embed a YouTube video in your webpages, without the iconic YouTube logo plastered in its corner? Well, now you can.
YouTube now allows you to choose whether to show the YouTube logo or not.
That can be done by simply adding the following embed parameter "?modestbranding=1" to your embed code.
Also, to keep up with the higher quality videos, YouTube will now show a high-resolution preview image in 480p or higher quality videos .

YouTube Embed inside Share
Looks like Google is cleaning up its YouTube interface even more. Today I was surprised not to see the usual "embed" button in all YouTube videos I watched. It really got me worried - even more when some of my friends reassured me they still could see the usual YouTube embed button in their browsers.
Where could my embed button be?
After a little digging, I finally found the YouTube embed button inside the Share section.
Now, it takes an extra click to get there, but I guess it really makes more sense that way. The embed option is probably used by a minority of the billions of users watching YouTube videos - and indeed it is a "sharing" thing.
All we have to figure out now, is to see if this is being implemented for everyone, or if it's simply a small scale usability test.
