If you're considering buying a brand new Sony PS3, maybe it would be best to wait a little while longer.
As confirmed by Reuters and Sony itself, this new 40GB (and PS2 incompatible) model will be on sale November 2nd for $399 and the 80GB model will be reduced to $500.
Let's wait and see if this is enough to drive Sony's next generation console sales. The Xbox 360 is still cheaper (while offering an equivalent high quality gaming experience), and the Wii is still the best seller with its innovative Wiimote motion-based play.
For some, this reduction is still too little too late, let's see how consumers react coming this Christmas season.
