Google Maps in WebGL

Rather than showing yet another demo of what WebGL can achieve, today it's Google itself that shows us a practical application of this 3D technology that remains mostly unused inside your browser. Google has decided to put WebGL to good use in its own WebGL Google Maps.

You just need to access it via the following link: http://maps.google.com/gl and enable the WebGL mode ("try something new" in the bottom left corner).

Though there's still a lot to be done, you can now see 3D building in your Google Maps, just like the Android version (and unlike iPhone users - which remain without it, even in iOS5) and also smoother zoom transitions across different view modes.
