Panasonic FZ70 is the new Super-Zoom King with 60x Zoom

Unfortunately it won't be available in time for these Summer vacations, but once you get back, you can expect to have a new super-zoom camera that leaves all others in the dust and can see farther than ever before. The new Panasonic Lumix DMX-FZ70 can now zoom up to 60x - well above the previously (and already impressive 40 and 50x superzoom models.

This Lumix has a f/2.8 20-1200mm lens, that you can push even further by attaching the optional DMW-LT55 lens (extra 1.7x zoom magnification pushing it to over 100x!) and you can always resort to the digital intelligent zoom that doubles it without any noticeable loss of quality - or so they say. In any case, you can expect this camera to become the new best friend of bird watchers and/or paparazzi wannabe's. The camera has a 16.1MP sensor, and you also get a wide assortment of creative digital effects.

The FZ70 should be available by September and cost around $400. Now we just have to wait and see how Canon and Nikon will respond to this new super-super-zoom camera that becomes the biggest and meanest camera of its type around.

(If you're fond of smaller cameras, Panasonic has also announced the Lumix XS3, with a thickness of just 14mm and weighing about 100g).
