Sentri - the brain for a smarter home
Want to keep an eye on your home when you're away, but you're put off as soon as you start searching for all the individual components you'd need and all the stuff you'd need to make it work together? Sentri might be the thing you've looking for, and is becoming a reality thanks to Kickstarter.
As they put it: Sentri is "a complete smart home security solution designed to give you visibility and control of your home, no matter where you are". Physically, it's a small box with a screen that you can simply "hang on a wall". It comes with a HD video camera and motion detector, as well as sensors that allow it to keep a record of temperature, humidity levels and air quality.
With Sentri you can be notified when something happens - maybe your house is too hot; maybe motion was detected when no one should be at home - and you could quickly grab a glimpse of what's happening using its integrated video camera.
Sentri hopes its hassle-free installation and ease of use, as well as its affordable price (began at $199, but you can still get it at $249), will win the trust of those interested in such a system. The worst part will be having to wait until May 2015 to actually be able to try it out at home (and by then, it's highly likely both Apple and Google will have disclosed more details about their intended home-offensive, with iOS and Android as home automation hubs.)
