Apple has unveiled their new iPads, iMac Retina 5K and new Mac Mini - in an event where the new OS X Yosemite was also launched (now available to all), and iOS 8.1 (coming next monday), with Apple Pay and Continuity working as expected. But let's start with the iPad.
iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3
Just like it did with the iPhone 6, Apple once again slimmed down the iPad Air - now down to 6.1mm - the thinnest ever, even less than a pencil. (Not hard to imagine someone will be putting it to the bend test soon enough.) Besides and anti-glare treatment, the new iPad comes with an improves 64bit A8X, which nearly doubles it's GPU power; a 8MP HDR+ camera (did you think using a tablet as a camera was ridiculous; looks like Apple doesn't think so), and you also get faster WiFi (ac) and LTE. As expected, you also get a Touch ID home button.
As for the iPad mini 3, it was a big letdown: it's basically just last year's mini 2 with Touch ID!
Now Apple as iPads ranging from $249 to $499 (and upwards):
- iPad mini - $249
- iPad mini 2 - $299
- iPad mini 3 - $399
- iPad Air - $399
- iPad Air 2 - $499
iMac 27" Retina 5K
Though some said a retina display for the iMac wasn't ready for mass production, Apple proved them wrong with this new iMac 27" retina 5K.
With 5120x2880 pixels, this screen is equivalente to four 2560x1440 screens side by side (or 16x HD 720p images, if you will). This is really pushing the limits of what can be done right now; and it's $2499 price ends up being surprisingly accessible - if you compare it to Dell 5K monitor that costs the same... for the screen alone.
Mac mini
We also got a refreshed Mac mini. For $499 you can get a tiny Mac with 4th gen Intel Core CPUs, PCIe based flash storage, WiFi ac, and 2x Thunderbolt 2 ports. It sure would be nice for it to have an ever "tinier" price but... I guess it will be welcomed by many wanting a cheaper, power-efficient, mac.
