Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus now shine brighter than ever

After adding the LED lightstrips to the Hue familiy, Philips finally answers the most common criticisms and suggestions with its new Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus.

Its was kind of strange the the original Hue Lightstrip couldn't actually provide an even white light, but that's something you won't have to worry any longer. The new Hue Lightstrip Plus can easily provide an enjoyable white light, from 2000 to 6500K (warm/cool white), just like the regular Hue Lamps.

But that's not all. While the original LED strip could only be used for decorative lighting, the Plus has a much higher light output, up to 1600lm. That's enough to use it as functional light; and you can easily expand it up to 10 meters in length. The main section has 2m, but you can add up to 8 extra 1m segments. You can also cut it to size in 33cm intervals.

The only problem continues to be the price. The Hue Lightstrip Plus costs €79.95, and an extra €24.95 for each 1m extension.

To put it in perspective, you can easily find RGB LED strips with 5m and remote control for less than €20. Hope Philips will soon reconsider opening up its Hue protocol and allow anyone to add Hue compatible lamps to their homes. Besides, if they don't, they'll risk becoming obsolete anyway, as Apple's HomeKit and Google's Weave start to put these devices in order.
