Do you like to keep a close eye on your iPhone? Have you turned on the percentage battery indicator? Would you like to know exactly what cellular signal strength your iPhone is getting? Well, now you can, and you don't even need to jailbreak it!
Maybe you're not aware but your iPhone as secret field test app that you can enter by dialing *3001#12345#*
Try it, and you'll see that instead of signal bars you get a dB numeric signal. Now, the trick is getting this setting to "stick" without resorting to jailbreaking... and fortunately that's something you can do. To do so, just follow the steps:
- Launch FieldTest.app by going into the dialer and dialing *3001#12345#*
- Hold down standby/lock like you’re going to turn the phone off
- Release standby/lock after the power off slider appears, then hold home (to force-quit)
- You should now have the signal numbers instead of bars
You can switch back and forth between the numbers/bars simply by tapping on them - but if you want to make it go away and get back to the plain old bar indicator, you need only launch the field test mode again, and simply quit back to main screen as usual; that will restore the setting back to normal.
