No, Dropbox wasn't hacked... yet
No one should be surprised... passwords and account leaks now happen constantly, but sometimes they might affect a popular service used by millions of users - like Dropbox. However, before you rush to change your password, you may want to reconsider unless you've been really careless about your passwords and use the same in every online service you use.

Dropbox deletes 8000 backup photos from user
If you're a regular reader, I hope you'll know how important backups are. But the truth is, most people only really start to care about backups after experiencing the despair of losing valuable data. Today, I bring you a case that shows that using Dropbox for backups might not be as foolproof as you'd expect.

Dropbox now has Screen Capture auto-sharing
There are several programs that provide advanced screen capture features, but for the most part, people still do it the old fashion way: pressing the PrtSc key to copy the screen to the clipboard, open a image editing program, paste the image there, crop and resize the image, save it to disk - and most of the time, upload it to some web service so they can share it with friends. Wouldn't it be good to get rid of it all and make it simpler? If you use Dropbox you can.
With the latest version, Dropbox can now automatically upload your screen captures, and if you press CTRL+PrtSc you get a link to the uploaded file in your clipboard. That means you're only a "paste" away from sharing your screen capture with your friends (or the entire web, if you wish.)
This is quite a nice addition to the automatic photos and video import feature (this new version also has an iPhoto import function for Mac users), and to be sure you're not unwillingly uploading screen captures to the cloud, you'll see a window pop up the first time you do a screen capture, asking if you wish to activate this new feature. At any time you can quickly toggle this screen capture upload on or off by visiting the import section in your computer's Dropbox preferences.

Boxopus Downloads Torrents to your Dropbox
If you're an avid torrent that can't go a single day without using it, and think Dropbox is the greatest invention of all times... why not combine the two and simplify your torrent downloads? That's precisely what you can do with this boxopus.
With Boxopus, you no longer have to worry with leaving your computer on all day and night to download the torrents you want; nor deal wit port forwarding and router configuration. You just have to tell it what torrent you want, and it will download it and put it on your dropbox folder automatically.
To make it even easier, several popular torrent sites (like TorrentReactor, Fulldls.com, Vertor.com and Torrentzap.co) have already added a boxopus download button, meaning you can do it all with a simple mouse click. Can't get any easier than that!

Dropbox Automator
If you recall the amazing If this then that, that allows you to "cook" up your recipes for automating things you might want to do but didn't think were possible to do with just a few clicks; and if you're a fan of Dropbox: you'll love this Dropbox Automator.
Sure, you have to grant it access to your Dropbox files (if you're not to sure about that, you can simply create a new dummy Dropbox account just to test it), but other than that... it can work wonders with your files and save you hours of your precious time.
For instance, you can use it to keep watch on a folder, and then do stuff like: resizing and uploading all the photos you place on that folder to Facebook; or convert those files to PDF; or upload it to Google Docs; or lots other options.
It might not be as versatile as IFTT, but ir can really be of value to dropbox fans willing to save time on "boring" tasks.

Dropbox
Some news about Dropbox. Finally they got to move from the old getdropbox url to the more appealing Dropbox.com
And if you haven't installed the Dropbox App for the iPhone yet, because you still had OS 3.0 (the App needed OS 3.1) now you can do it - the Dropbox App now supports OS 3.0 which means many more people are able to use it.
(And in case you haven't read my previous posts about dropbox and you have no idea what this "thing" is, then you can check the new presentation video)

Dropbox iPhone App
Remember Dropbox, the amazing online storage that can keep your data in sync across multiple computers and different operating systems (Windows, Linux, and Mac)?Well. although you've always been able to access your files via web browser (with an iPhone optimized page and all) we now have a native iPhone Dropbox app that offers lots more: you can even stream audio and video files from your dropbox account to your iPhone, and mark your favorite files as - guess what - "Favorites" for offline access.
If you're still now using it: GetDropbox, and get the Dropbox iPhone App from the App Store as well! :)

Get Dropbox Now
Remember Dropbox? They just had their live presentation in the Techcrunch 50, a conference that is looking for the best ideas and startups around the web.
Unfortunately for them their presentation didn't go all that well - they had some Wi-Fi troubles that messed his concentration, and things got a little "out-of-control." And when you're competing with other great concepts and ideas, this is a killer. :(
I still can't understand why he failed to mention the revision control, which gives you access to any version of any file you modify in your dropbox! That's probably the feature with the most "wow" factor. It's a shame it went unnoticed.
(They should have played their demo video instead...)
Well, here's the new stuff:
Dropbox is now live and available for everyone! No need to hunt down invites from friends! Just go there and sign up for your free account.
Linux support is also up and running!
And if you feel 2Gb is not enough, you can now get up to 50Gb for $10/month or $100/year.
For the first 500 users that went to http://www.getdropbox.com/beta/tc50 were entitled to a free premium account - which were used up in about 1 minute. :)
Don't forget to check the demo video if you haven't done so before:

Dropbox - Online Virtual Disk
If you can't wait any longer for the official Google Drive then you should really check out: Dropbox. It's an online virtual disk drive that keeps your files in sync wherever you may go, and allows easy sharing of files and folders with your colleagues and friends.
It's extremely easy to setup and use, and from what I've seen - I think every other similar services should be worried about it.
Check the demo video and sign up at the site.
