How to keep your 15GB on OneDrive

Last month. Microsoft surprised us by announcing it would end the unlimited storage plan on and reduce the free plan from15GB to just 5GB. Something that caused a lot of concern among users, and finally MS seems to have come to its senses.

The cloud may be the future, but it looks like it will be a bumpy road till we get there, as Microsoft has just showed by going back on its word and terminates the unlimited storage plan, and cuts the storage capacity for both free and paying customers.

MS opens up OneDrive offering 100GB

SkyDrive is dead, long live OneDrive. After being forced to change it's SkyDrive name (thanks to the British Sky Network), Microsoft has tried to do its best to turn a bad thing into a... well... less bad thing. After all the millions poured into making SkyDrive a household name - sometimes excessively so, as you could attest if you caught those blatant marketing moments in series such as Hawaii Five-O - Microsoft is now touting its OneDrive as being the one.

For most people, nothing will change, you'll still have all the data you had in your SkyDrive, it's just a name change. But for 100,000 users, today is the day they can get 100GB free space for a year though you'll need to look for further info on OneDrive's twitter account).

There are also more ways to get some extra free space to your account. Activating photo backup will grand you an extra 3GB of free space; while inviting friends will earn you 500MB each (up to a maximum of 5GB). If that's not enough, you can subscribe the 50, 100 and 200GB plans, at $25, $50 and $100 each, per year.

As for the mobile apps, everything should be handled automatically as well. One day you go to bed with your SkyDrive app installed, the next day it should have been replaced by the new OneDrive app. At least, that's how it is supposed to go.
