LG brings their Aka smartphones "to life"

How can you stand out from the crowd in a world filled with identical looking and identical behaving smartphones? For LG the answer is to make them different, and the result is this curious Aka line of smartphones with their own personality.

These LG Aka are available in four different colors, but this time we're not simply talking about color. Each has it's own unique and distinct personality. The yellow is Eggy, and falls in love easily; the white is Wooky, who only talks in slang; the blue, Soul, loves music and beer; and the pink is YoYo, who loves coke and hamburgers. Thanks to the slide in case, the top of their screens is always visible and give life to their "eyes".

Hardware-wise, the Aka line has a 5" HD screen (720p), 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB flash (plus microSD), 8MP camera with laser focus, 2MP front camera, and 2610mAh battery. Should you grow tired of your Aka, you can simply swap the case, as it has an identity chip that will transform it into a different "pet". Along the way you'll get to know their mission to save our planet from an alien invasion, and you'll be asked to help.

It's impossible not to think of the tamagotchi craze from a few decades ago; but one must agree it really is a nice change that might have a wider reach that we can first imagine. Just think about it for a while... what about if, a few years from now, you'd pick your next smartphone not because of how much RAM or GHz it has, but based on its digital personality? Wouldn't that be something?
