$25 Raspberry Pi Model A Finally Available

The small Raspberry Pi micro-computer has been conquering the world from the very first day it has put on sale. But today, the time finally comes for them to fulfill their promise and put the famed $25 model on sale, the Raspberry Pi Model A.

Not that I believe too many would be put off by the more "expensive" $25 Raspberry Pi Model B, which has more memory, an extra USB port, and double the RAM; but if that's not a requirement for your project, you can save the $10 and use it elsewhere. Besides, there's an added advantage of this cheaper Raspberry Pi: power usage. The Model A uses about 1/3 the power of the Model B, and that can be all it takes to make it the ideal choice for battery operated or solar powered systems.

For now, the Raspberry Pi model B will only be on sale in Europe, but it shouldn't take long for it to be available worldwide. Meanwhile, you can play around with Model B... :)

A Mini-Arcade powered by Raspberry Pi

I couldn't resist sharing this amazing mini-arcade project powered by a Raspberry Pi computer. In our portuguese mailing list there's been a lot of activity regarding the "making-of" of a full sized arcade machine powered by the small low-cost Raspberry Pi. But, let's face it... not everyone is willing - or has the space - to have a full sized arcade cabinet in their homes.

But with this tiny arcade... that's no longer an issue!

As you might imagine, most of the requirements are very similar the same: you have joystick and button inputs, you have a display (in this case, a tiny 2.4" LCD), and even get an OLED marquee on top for added effect. And unlike a real size arcade cabinet... you get to easily take it with you whenever you go visit a retro-gaming loving friend. :)

Raspberry Pi has Launch Date

The small linux computer Raspberry Pi, that is posed to shows us that size doesn't really matter... nor price... is generating lots of hype on the developer community. After all this tiny $25 computer isn't afraid of becoming a full fledged media center, running XBMC with Full HD video support.

And now, we finally now when it will be available at last: after some delays due to a hard to get component, the board will be ready on Feb 20th, meaning they'll be available for you and me before the end of this month.

Now, the real question is... who will be lucky enough to get one of the first batch Raspbery Pi's? My guess is that it won't be easy.
